I have a CSUSA cigar on the lathe right now, and the blank chipped to the tube at the nib end. From the best I can measure, it looks like about 3/32" is exposed. I really like the blank (olive burl) and don't want to waste it. Can I safely mill this much off and still have a properly functioning pen? I would think I could, but I don't want to go through the finishing process and assembly to be unpleasantly surprised. Thanks.

Sorry Mike but the lower tube length is critical . If you cut any off the refill won't retract all the way and most likely it won't lock in the extended position either .
Why don't you try an oops band .

This would be a good way to keep your blank. Make it contrasting and it will look like part of the design.
