I took my first shot at a Churchill last night, with limited success.

I have 2 questions and would be grateful for any feedback.

1) What do you use for tube insertion? I have an insertion tool, but it will only accomodate up to 11mm. I thought of using my wife's turkey baster, but cooler heads prevailed.

2) My pen mill set only has shafts for up to 10mm. How do you trim these large bore blanks?

Thanks,

Bob Quinn

Answer to first question is my fingers. The last 1/8" or so, I use an artist's palette knife.

If you have some corian, you can make an insert for the pen mill shaft or you can wrap the shaft with 1-1/2" masking tape.

Bob,
#1 Use your fingers or a Q-tip. That's what I use to glue inside my blanks. The head of an 8d nail works too.
#2 I turned inserts to fit on my 7mm pen mill shaft. We are woodturners, right?[;)] No need to go buy inserts for different pen kits.... Drill a scrap pen blank with a 7mm(9or 9/32) drill bit. Put it on your mandrel and turn it to fit inside the Churchill tubes. Then repeat for other bigger than 7mm kits. Some even will do double duty.
