the dial indicator is just a cheapie from Princess Auto, the Canadian equivalent to horror freight
so it just measures the amount I move the fence

here's the completed pen top, the knot is pretty awesome if I may say so myself!!
have to remember for the next bunch that hexagonal pieces don't fit in a 4 jaw chuck properly!! I had to align the semi-turned piece with a dial indicator to drill the 7mm hole

as a side, just picture all those tiny pieces of maple between the walnut "slices"!!
