what about carnauba wax for pen finishing.does it hold the shine.

Nope. But I have put wax on top of a CA finish to cut back on fingerprints. Instead of using expensive carnauba, a lot of us substitute with Kiwi's neutral shoe polish.

it gives the wood a nice warm finish, but best for items that
won't be handled a lot.

Wax is not a finish. It is intended to go over the finish to protect it from things like fingerprints. You will also need to re-apply periodically (if you want to ).
