I plan to order a few pens in the style of the 3 kits listed above.
My search in the forums found a comparison based on tube size and bushings with no mention of kit quality. Comparing the vendor sites the Polaris has a slightly different cap style, but not much else.

Comparing the brushed satin - the Patriot is approx. 40 cents higher than the Carbara and Polaris (excluding the PSI sale). I am not purchasing in large volume so it is not significant difference (but $$ is $$).

Has anyone done a comparison of the 3 kits to assess quality?
Or a caveat emptor based on your experience with the kits?

Many thanks,

PJ

There is also the Coronado from Rockler. (They've been on clearance in store for $3.99 chrome or gold and $5.99 for Titanium.)

The Atlas from Woodcraft.

The Polaris from Timberbits.com

Ok - we have 7 suppliers with this style kit. Did I miss any others?

Carbara from Berea
Artisan Patriot from Craft Supply
Polaris from PSI
Polaris from Timberbits
Atlas from Woodcraft
Trident from WoodnWhimsies
Coronado from Rockler

All require a 3/8" bore

Assuming equal platings - is there a difference in quality across the kits?

PJ,

I've only turned the Berea Carbara and Patriot from CSUSA. Both were quality kits and went together without any issues.

I stick to platings that have a track record for lasting - chrome, black or gold titanium and black chrome. I have not tried anything with a brushed satin finish.
