Somewhere in the last three weeks or so I saw a sled on a web site somone built that lets you cut the four corners off a blank before turning, and guess what, I can't find it now. This sled was for a band saw, it allows you to put a square blank on it and run it through to cut the corners off resulting in an eight sided blank instead of four. I'm holding blanks to a belt sander and every time my fingers start burning I think of this sled.

There is an article on this site that tells how to make a home made table saw sled and another on how to make a band saw sled for cutting pen blanks. I made the band saw sled and it took 1/2 hour and was entirely from scrap headed for the woodstove, except a thimble full of wood glue. To find the articles on the sleds, go to the site's home page, look for a clickable link to the articles section, then select the article you wish to access.
