Here are more pics of the burl I posted yesterday. My wife got the burl at a garage sale for $5 along with some other I'll post . The piece was hanging on a wall, was about 24" round and about 4" thick. It had a really heavy glossy finish on it. I cut a section out, sliced it and cross cut it. I'm thinking Aspen Burl or Willow burl. Thoughts??

Here are a couple others she also picked up. I think the darkgrey is Ironwood. very hard and dense, i'm not sure about the other. Its also dense and a very dark brown. ANY help would be Great!!

Thanks,

Rodney

The only thing I`m sure about is that you owe your wife a night out !

Don`t know about willow . The ones I`m familiar with tend to have red-brown in them , not gray . A well sanded cross section on the stem of the dark brown one might help to ID it . Probably would on the dark gray also .

The very dense dark pieces with the gray weathering on the outside are Desert Ironwood - one of my favorite woods. It's dense enough that it will sink in water. The large piece which you've cut into is Buckeye Burl. Whatever that gnarly looking one is, I'd have to see it cut open to have any idea what it is.

Nice score! You definitely owe your wife one for bringing it home for you!

What a deal

Now that your wife is hooked you get to spend more money on tools and other fun stuff.

He had great taste at the yard sale or wherever she got the pieces of burl for $%.
