I am looking to dye some white oak blanks I have some red, some blue, and some black if possible. I realize this needs to be done after turning before the ca top coats. Will this work and what do I use and where can I buy it? Thank you in advance for your help.

It sounds as though you want to color a turned object just before the final finish is applied. If so, avoid water based dyes and stains as they will tend to raise the grain. Instead use oil based stains available at Wood craft or hobby stores.

A really nice chemical dye for white oak is made from soaking rusty steel wool in vinegar. This will give you iron oxide, and that will react with the tannin in the oak. Gives you a very unique color.
