CA and Wood Moisture Content Question

[?] Another question, when applying a CA finish without the use of an accelerator i.e. BLO, Danish or Tung Oil, does CA draw moisture from the wood that causes the clouding? I have noticed on oily woods such as Cocobolo, Olivewood and stabilized Wood Burls, the CA doesnt cloud up as it does with a non-oily wood.

I don't have any problem with clouding if I put the first coat on very thin and rub it into the wood. This acts as a very nice sealer, so that all additional coats sit on top and remain clear.

At least that is how it seems to work for me.

I take it you rub the CA in while the Lathe is off? I guess my Curiosity got to me when it works on the oily woods and not on the dry woods. Interesting. Thanks for the help.

Yes I apply mine with the lathe off.

I cannot give you a scientific answer, but I know from experience that the oils in wood like cocobolo act like an accelerator. The quick drying time may make a difference.
