For those that use a mandrel and bushes, try cutting some greaseproof paper washers to go between the blank and the bush. I fold a piece so that it is 4 + layers thick, then drill a 1/4" hole (sandwiched between a piece of thin ply and a solid piece underneath works really well to drill)
that will allow the mandrel to go through, or the size of the inside of the tube. . Assemble as you normally would, but with the "washers" between the blanks and bushes. When you turn down to size the "washers" are trimmed also. Then it is just a matter of applying your CA finish, separating the bushes from the blanks and cleaning up the paper ends with a pen mil/sander. I've done about 20 with no chipping on the finish.

I just tried this method earlier this week - great minds obviously think alike. I used waxed paper which is the same thing, I assume. I used a paper punch for the holes but it worked very well. Keeps the bushings clean and the ends of the turning smooth.
