I had seen so many people using the beall buffing system to buff their pens, and I had an idea. Obviously, this isn't that buffing system, but I was thinking(dangerous, no?)...What I was thinking of, was getting some buffing pads for my cordless drill, and buffing my pens on the lathe. My idea was to max out the speed of the lathe, load up a buffing pad on the drill with some compound(EEE, WD and ren wax - different pads, obviously) and go to town.

Thoughts on this?

You don't need that much speed. I run a 6" wheel at 2300 rpm and this is plenty fast for a quick buffing, much more speed than that will burn the finish.
If you use 8" buff wheels the speed should be lower, you are after a certain surface speed range.
There are a few buffing threads here that explain this. I will try to find one of them for you.
