Anyone using the above 20 minute epoxy? i bought some a while back but had a lot of failures not only on pen blanks but also on other projects. Never had this problem with Stick Fast.

Yes I use it all the time. In fact I just threw out some old stuff last month and I always date my bottles and is said Nov 2011. The hardener was actually starting to cristalize.
If yours is fairly new and you are mixing the correct amounts then it's possible you have a bad batch.

No failures to report. Bought it from Hobbly Lobby and it worked for close to 2 years of affixing tubes. Maybe, your batch was bad? In fact, I like it better than the Mercury brand and plan to but more of the BSI.

What is the temperature in your shop when you are gluing?

BSI 15 minute recommends above 65 degrees.
The 30 minute recommends above 70 degrees.

The 5 minute is the most forgiving. They say it will cure down to 40 degrees.

Just a thought. You are just a little bit south of me, and my garage shop gets pretty chilly right now. But I have no idea where your shop is, or if it's climate controlled, so take it for what it is worth.

Over the years, I've used a LOT of BSI epoxy on high power rockets. 5, 15, and 30 minute. Never had a problem. On pens, I use 5 minute almost exclusively. The only time I use a longer cure time epoxy is if I'm gluing up blanks for several pens at once. Lately I've been using Devcon 5 minute from Lowes, just because it's convenient to pick it up there. No problems with it, either. But like Dan said, 5 minute epoxy does not cure all the way in 5 minutes. I've turned within an hour with success, but if it's an important project or expensive blank, I'll wait longer.
