In an rather unfortunate incident I managed to destroy my tool rest.
Safety lesson here.. When you little one enters the shop while you are turning stop the lathe and then talk to them.. I turned to see who it was and bumped the gouge into the piece I was working. It slammed into the tool rest breaking it off at the post.. (old cast iron rest). The piece I was turning didn't fair well either.
The weekend as near. I had a project to finish for fathers day and couldn't get one any time soon so I improvised with some angle iron and a 1/2 bolt.
After decapitating the bolt and beating the steel over some round bar this is what I came up with. It works well enough.
