When I got home this afternoon there was three pieces of wood beside my garage and they are box elder. One was about 9" in dia and very checked, one was about 5", and the other was a slab about 4"X6" and they were all about 17" long. The checked one I have cut into pen blanks. There is a little spalting and a little red but most is fairly clear. This wood seems to soft for pens. I have the stuff to stabilize here and want to know if it would be necessary. Also what about dyeing it. what kind of dye should I use with acetone and plexiglass.[?]
