Where is the best location for the blank?

Most of the blanks I turn needs some spacer bushings to fill the void on the mandrel.

So my question is should the blank be closer to the head stock, tail stock or in the middle of the mandrel in order to get the most equal wall thikness?

Alparent, you get more "vibration" or "play" closer to the tailstock. I try to keep them closer to the headstock. Some only turn one blank at a time. If I get alot of chattering while turning I will turn down the one by the headstock first then flip the blanks on the mandrel and do the other one.

Something else you will notice, alot of people set their blanks up the same way everytime. Nib to one end and final to the other.

I work mine aproximately in the middle of the mandrel. My mandrel was originally purchased to turn duck calls and came with brass tubes to be used as spacers. Anyone can do the same thing with extra tubes.
