Had an interesting experience the other day. Had a wood-blank pen (osage orange) which had developed a couple of cracks down the length of each section of the pen. It has been my daily carry pen so didn't think it really that important to correct -- carried it for a few months as it was. Finally decided to knock it apart and refinish with a new coat of CA and fill the cracks. When I dripped some thin CA in the crack it just wicked right into the pen and really didn't fill the crack - just disappeared. It actually took several drops before the CA began to actually fill the crack. Must have had quite a void between the blank and tube. I suppose the wood must have shrunk a bit where there was no glue interface between the parts causing the cracks.

Lesson learned -- take care with the initial glue-up and get good coverage on both blank and tube.
