I need to turn a couple of bullet cartridge pens that are black on top. Would like to use wood. I have not seen any to compare to. Whats the best wood to use for this type pen.

Thanks

I ordered some african blackwood to try. I have someone who wants a black pen, but I am concerned about the stability of Ebony.

It didn't hurt that the blackwood was much cheaper too.

I love African blackwood... Turns great and smells good too.

If you can't get your hands on it, you can use India ink to dye just about anything black.

+1 to blackwood

I got my piece from CSUSA today and turned a sierra elegant beauty from it. Wow, that is nice wood. The first stage of poly is drying now. Hopefully I will be able to finish it this weekend and take some pics.

There is article in the library about ebonizing wood, you could use oak and turn it black. No worries about cracking and it's easy to find.

I tried it afew years ago, the process worked well.

I'd agree with using blackwood as well if you're looking for something with a nice grain pattern through it still. If you are just wanting a black material that can get a nice glossy shine to it you could look into black plastics as well.
