Looks like a fine sand blast finish maybe?
Most likely a molded pen with the texture from the mold.

I polish as normal with MicroMesh, then use 0000 steel wool for the satin finish.

Too bad there isn't a semi-gloss or satin black blank available. Try saying black blank 10 times fast! LOL.

Your steel wool finish looks good though. I'll have to give that a try.

Even if there was, it wouldn't matter. The final look of the blank depends on how you finish it, not how it looks before turning. In fact, most acrylic blanks that I turn are shiny on two sides and dull on two sides. They're dull where they're cut. You can see it in these photos.
