So tonight I get all set up to turn a baron between centers.

I get the blanks ready by sanding them on the disc/belt sander. Then I go to insert the bushings I got from JohnnyCNC and they are REALLY tight. So I use a rat tail file to file them out, but they are still REALLY tight. So I try to squeeze them in between centers, and they go in ok. Turn the tube. Then I Can't get the friggin' bushings out!!! Destroyed the blank getting the bushings out.

HELP!!

Sorry to hear you are having problems, you can always feel free to contact me
directly in cases like this, I can help.
It sounds like you may have some glue in the tubes, and you do need to deburr
the opening after trimming the ends.

I check every bushing in new clean tubes and they are a close fit but will slip
in easily by hand.
I suggest you try the same, and let me know what you find.

Here are some instructions, they are on my site also..

Chip, one thing to keep in mind when turning between centers and using Johnny's bushings- if you have to struggle with the bushings to get them to go in, even if you manage to get them out afterwards you're going to have to use even more force to get the kit hardware in. Johnny's bushing have a lot tighter tolerance than stock bushings (which in some cases have a fair amount of slop), but are still smaller than the actual hardware designed for a pressure fit. If the tube has glue in it, or a ridge in the edge from milling the faces perpendicular, then the chances are if you don't get that corrected when you go to press in the hardware, the tube will flex/deform more and the finished barrel will crack. Using Johnny's bushings, in my opinion, acts as a doublecheck- if they fit, there shouldn't be a problem getting the hardware installed. If they're too tight, there's more cleanup work that has to be done if you're going to end up with solid pen.

John,
In no way did I mean to imply it was your stuff.......... IT'S ME!!! It was my first try, and I screwed up.

I didn't debur, I just used a rat tail file to get the glue out.

Your stuff is TOP shelf all the way. Don't blame the equipment, blame the user!
