I use a removeable centre livecentre as per pic I turn a small brass sleeve fitted in the live centre with a snug fit (cut of the threaded end of the mandrel) to the mandrel end.

The tension from the tail stock the depth of the hole in the brass about 3/8 of an inch, use packing 1/4 inch washers or adjust the collet mandrel.

Trust this gives an alternate you can make.

Kind regards Peter.

And with the Nova Live Center - that is especially easy. That live center comes with a MT-2 opening that allows easy adaptation.

Good photos -- and that little Record is a great lathe. My hands probably would not fit with the tool rest you use though.

Thanks
