Easy, buy used... Look at the older 14" Delta's they will out perform most everything built today. I paid just $325 for my 16" Walker Turner and I have only replaced the thrust bearings and make guide blocks from Ligum Vitae. There are a lot of old tools that are built better than most things today and can be bought for a great deal.

Heck, if you look for one of the 10" Deltas, you can buy them for under $20.00 at times!

I have the Rikon 10", which is a quality piece and big enough if you're not doing anything thicker than 3". I think it retails for $299, but it goes on sale now and then.

If you need a good saw for wood or metal, check this out.

I own this, and it's wonderful. The portability is a huge plus for me.
