My son is finishing this training at Fort Sill, OK for artillery fire control and I would like to make a pen for his graduation.

I am looking for some in-put regarding an artillery or cannon shaped pen. I envision a pen shaped like a civil war cannon with a pen holder shaped like an axil and two spoked wheels (like one always sees in pictures).

I figured the business end of the pen would look best at the narrow end of the cannon, but that would put the pen at a slight upward incline when at rest.

Would such an incline cause the ink to run down in the pen and cause problems, if so, I'll consider putting the writing end at the breach end of the cannon, directed now the incline.

Thank you all, in advance, for your help.

Steve,
If you son is in FDC (fire direction control) then he is either 13E or 13C. Thus he is in an elite class above the "cannon cockers/gun bunnies) He will appreciate a high class pen more than something that looks like a cannon. Even a cartridge pen would be better. Unless he is a 13B then yes a cannon would be fine.
