Any plating specialists available?

I'm seeing multiple definitions for what titanium plating is, depending on whether gold or black. I know that Titanium Nitride is used for the titanium gold plating, but I've read that either titanium nitride or titanium Oxide are used for the black titanium, depending on who you read.

Does anyone have a definitive answer to what, exactly, is used for the black ti plating? I don't want to mislead anyone reading my webpage, and I'm just plain curious, myself.
