Antler straightening

Been wondering if antler could be softened and then made straight by softening in boiling water. Anyone tried this to help with curved tines before drilling?

I have done it with limited success. I boiled the pieces for quite a while and put them in a vice for over 24 hrs. It worked or about 1/2 if the ones I tried.
