Hello All:

I am going to be turning a wedding pen out of some Alt. Ivory that I purchased from Ed and Dawn a few years ago.....do I need to paint the tubes for this material, or is it solid? If I remember correctly, you do not need to, but I just want to be sure as I only have one blank. Thanks...

If you aren't sure, paint them.
It really depends on the components and how thick the material will be when done.
A cigar might be fine but a jr gent might not be.

Paint them to be safe.

If it is like the couple pieces I had, it is borderline depending on how thin it is turned.

I would recommend painting it.

I still have a couple from a few years ago also and I remember Ed mentioning that they should be painted or at least use them for larger pens.

This is EXACTLY the answer I usually give!!

NO ONE has EVER called to tell me they REGRET painting-----I have had a NUMBER of calls saying they wish they WOULD HAVE painted----not on alt ivory, but on ALL plastics.

A white tube will NOT "pop out" of the finished pen----BRASS, might!
