Hello,
I remember seeing a thread on this before, but when I searched, I didn't find it. I am looking for recommendations on turning the blank (I hear its very brittle) and things like what color to paint the tubes. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks'
Nick

Gently, Nick.

Sharp skew, very light cuts until it is round. Once round, just keep your tool in contact with the blank and pay attention.

IF you are not comfortable with the skew, you can use a scraper, but then finalize with sanding, if you have left "chip outs".

Like all "More challenging" materials, check from time to time to see if you are leaving a nice finished surface. If it is "chipping", try changing your angle of cut or change tools.

Practice will get you farther than any other single "advice".

Good luck!!

As for color, I have seen white look nice, I personally use kind of orange (close to the color of the blank).

It will be translucent, when turned to pen size.

Good turning!!

Nick, here are some threads which may be of help for the Alternate Amber blank. Maybe one of these is the one that you were thinking of??

Each pen is very pretty! It is still amazing to me the way the semi-transparency the blank can give you completely different look with different colored tubes. Heck, these don't even look like the same blank - but are!

Thank you, the last one was the thread I was looking for. I think I'm going to try a metallic orange.
