What would be the best glue to use? Are there any pitfalls to watch out for? Thanks in advance.

Acrylics are usually joined with a solvent; Weld-On makes a variety of solvents and solvent-based adhesives for acrylics, and I'm sure there are others as well.

You can get by with epoxy or even CA. Depending on the strength you need...CA has little shear strength.

Weldon 16 would certainly join the two pieces. But I'm sure it will give you the look you are hoping for because it does melt the two pieces together so you might not get a nice crisp line. Epoxy and CA both adhere acrylics very well without the melting.
