? about burn lines

I tried the look of burn lines in my newest pen. I used a guitar string to burn the lines. The question I have is do I add the burn lines before the finish or after the finish? On this pen I added it before the finish but the CA/BLO filled it, so while you can see the burn lines, you can't feel them. And some of the CA dust got stuck in the lines so there is flecks in the black lines. What the best method?

I do mine before the finish, but I don't use CA as a finish if I have burn lines... for the reason you stated.

Before. Wipe off with paper towel before applying finish.

Why would you wipe off the burn lines? [:0]

I put the finish on after burning and use my thumb nail to get the excess finish out of the burn marks.

I burn them in before the CA and then re-do the lines with the wire after CA/before final polish.

I use the procedure described here by Karl.

Take care not to wrap the wire around your fingers. If it catches, the wire will cut to the bone at a minimum.

I use fishing trace wire and have the ends attached to wooden pegs. The pegs are held BETWEEN my fingers.

Ah thanks for the advice. Gonna try this on my next one or I may just redo the one I did.
