I'm new to the sight & am blown away by some of the pictures I've seen posted (Great stuff). Does anyone have a "preferred technique" for turning a "rope cut" pen? I've turned over 100 pens so, although I'm relatively new at it compared to many, I'm comfortable with tools, techniques, etc. Is this technique as difficult as it looks? The results are beautiful & unique...

Well if you are referring to my rope pens, I use a Legacy mill.
Virgil, uses a pen mill, so does Rich K. ( a machine no longer available)
Tom McMillian cuts his by hand with a rasp.
Chuckie has modified his lathe and uses a dremel type cutter I think.
So rhere are several options.

Just to clear up on little thing...Rich K and I use a MillLathe to do our spirals, not a pen mill.[:D]

The MillLathe is no longer in production but one crops up from time to time. J. R. Beall's Lathe Wizard also shows up for sale. Both have been offered here since the first of the year.

Do a good turn daily!
