I dissasembled and re-turned this one to correct an out-of-round state ( nasty mandrel). It is made of bald cyprus, from Florida, A very soft wood, like cedar. I cut it cross grain as an exercise for the student, as the math books say, so I could learn to work with a soft, easy to blow out timber. The pen got a little thinner during the rework. When I took the photo, I realized- I have made an earthworm Even the acrylic CB/oops ring looks like part of the worm. Oh well.

That's funny, I was expecting hole riddled wood but when I saw the pen I thought "That looks like a friggin earthworm!", then I read the post and caught on. I bet a bird would carry that thing off! lol

What would it look like without the band (if it can be removed)?
