Hi all,

This is a Celtic pen made from a blank that I receive from Edohman. It was marked as unknown and, Murphy's Law, was the first one from the set that I turned. I like how it came out but am still none the wiser on what the wood is. It does have a greenish tinge to it rather like some poplar but the grain is more interesting.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Allan

What you will get is guesses --

I have turned some myrtle (California Bay Laurel) that looked like that in both tone and figure. Could also make the case for some other woods, but myrtle is a reasonable guess.

I believe it is curly maple, but it was unmarked when I got it, so I left it unmarked rather than just writing a guess on the blank.

Many woods can look like that: to name a few,
Myrtle, camphor, sapwood Sapele, sapwood Spanish cedar, et al.
There are lots of woods with interlocking grain like that.
Whatever the species, know your pen looks real good

Thanks everyone for the feedback. The pen sold but I told the buyer I would reach out to the community in attempt to find out what the wood was. Looks like curly maple has the vote and I will pass it on like that.

Thanks for your help and to Ed for a good looking blank.
