My first attempts at acrylics which I acquired during a recent trade.
My reason for posting is to try to identify the material in each blank as they both demonstrated different characteristics when being turned.
The top one looked at first like shattered glass on the surface and then turned quite smoothly so I assume that is acrylic?
The lower blank felt very soft and just peeled off like thread, wrapping itself around the mandril, similar to some ebonite which I tried recently. I know its not ebonite so could it be resin?
Very pleased at how easy it is to get a good sheen with acrylics/resin? I wet sanded from 400 through to 12000MM and buffed with Tcut.
Regards, Bill

The bottom one is an older material. Was called "tiger eye". It is closer to a celluloid, whereas the top one is more of a resin.

I also sell the top one, imported.

Just to clarify, I also HAVE the bottom one. NOT for sale, but I have turned it. So, I am qualified to make a pretty good comparison of the materials.

Thanks for the replies, I now know what I turned.
Other than ebonite, these are the only man made materials Ive turned to date.
I still love and prefer wood but these things are fun to turn.
regards, Bill
