Default Wenge Wood Majestic with Black Palm Pen holder

FYI, if you want to try turning Black Palm, don't. It was very tuff as it is a very splintery wood and a bear to put a nice CA finish on. Expect to get many splinters.

The Wenge wood pen was normal though.

Lovely Pen!!! The only time I've had success with Black Palm was when I stabilized before turning. I still had issues but fewer. Wenge gives a very similar look w/o most of the drama. The Wenge splinters are still dangerous causing the site to go septic, remove them quickly and clean well.

Beautiful pen and holder! I really like the look of black palm. I like that it produces a uniform look around the pen, unlike how other woods will always have quartersawn and flat sawn sides. It can be difficult to turn, but I have been happy with the results that I've gotten without stabilization. That said, I tried to do a cross-cut piece without stabilization and won't try that again.

I think I'll have to look into stabilizing the rest of it before I do anything with it.

Excellent job! I'm always tempted by the palm but the splinters keep me away. Your effort was well worth it for sure. Nice to see another from the valley of the sun on here.

Outstanding Pen Kyle.
Magnificent Wenge Blank, Superbly Turned, Fitted and Finished, a Great Companion to the Majestic Pen.
I like the Black Palm Cup, the Surface and Finish, is a great Foil for your Pen, and allows it, to Stand Out.
Congratulations,
Brian.

I picked up a piece of cross cut black palm in a bargain bin. It was stabilized but still splinters tremendously. One I got that under control I was happy until the slightest catch and I ended up with black palm pieces everywhere.
