This Majestic was made possible with the generousity of Terry (Terryf) and Peter Hall (aggromere). Terry provided the warthog ivory and aggromere kindly gave me a the Majestic kit. I had the pleasure of turning and coming up with this effort. The ivory was a pleasure to work with my carbide tool, but unfortunately I drilled the end cap too poorly and nearly destroyed the (precious)blank. Somehow managed to salvage the cracked ivory with the use of red sparkle mixed with a CA slurry. Nice pen, but I should have gotten a better result given the blank and harware that were provided. Thanks for looking.

Peter, a real pity about the warthog!

I'm not personally a fan of the fix me uppers and to be honest this looks like a fixed crack - no offense meant.

Have you considered stripping the cap and replacing it with something like buffalo horn to create a two tone pen? I cant remember what else I sent you but perhaps there is something black amongst them?

Once again, no offense meant by my comments Peter.

Kind Regards
Terry

Well, I'm sorta on the fence about this one. It looks like you did a good job on the body and technically, a good fix for the cap. But, I'm not sure that it really lives up to the body and kit. Now, not to say it's scrap, but I would consider replacing the cap with a nice gemsbok horn, cape buffalo horn or even Ebony (no cheesy song lyrics from washed up old pop singers, please). I would take that tube, a needle tip on a dremel tool and rough up the edges of the crack some to make it look more like a natural fissure and less like a break, then fill it again with a different color mix. Maybe even add a couple more color "incursions", and then make another body out of a coordinating resin to go with the "Worthless Ivory" cap. That way you are dressing up a plain pen with the ivory pieces, not selling a "fixed mistake" as a high end exotic pen.

Just an option, YMMV

Peter, I had a wart hog pen I made crack, not as bad as yours but still a high end pen should not look like an opps pen so I made a new top out of a black PR and called it "Ebony and Ivory" here is a link to it...feel free to do the same if you want...just leave the note off.....just kidding, use it if you want. http://www.penturners.org/forum/showthread.php?t=78808

I'm reading this feedback and I'm kind of confused. I know you say this was an oops pen, but to me...crack or not, the Red looks very dynamic and rich against the ivory. Almost like a statement being made. Having used the Majestic kits myself I agree that perhaps the black t/n kit would have been a better choice. Overall though...I like the red and think it adds for a great stroy. Just my .02

That was fine work, my friend. How you saved that shows your expertise. You found a way to keep the sparkle, sparkly without the gray matter showing through. The gray matter being the material my sparkle is made of. Maybe I am using cheap stuff and you are using something much better.

Try, try again.

Well I have changed the cap and replaced it with ebony. What do you think? Better than the original "save" or still missing something?

^^^THIS!!!! That pen would be a clone of every other Majestic out there. The red crack running down it IS the focal point! It is what makes it unique. Without it, that pen would be boring and would look like every other Majestic. VERY well done!

Changing it to the black cap is fine if that's what YOU wanted to do. Don't let anyone on here tell you how your pens should or should not look...me included. The pen as it was originally, was an expression of YOU. You turned it, messed it up, saved it, and created something totally unique. In my honest opinion, the original pen was far more appealing.
