A dear friend (and retired police detective) with a Sherlock Holmes-like taste for mystery and stunning problem-solving skills requested a quartet of fountain pens - welcome chance to marble from dark-to-light - (chiaroscuro technique, way short of Rembrandt, but fun nonetheless):

I like the Daniel Smith Mars Black watercolor ground - nice and thirsty for color - 2 coats on acetone-cleaned brass tubes, dried x 48 hours between coats, then alum'ed before each of the two marblings.

This was also a chance to test the pigment saturation/covering capacity of Golden High Flow acrylics with or without a little mica mixed in - and please see my recent posts detailing marbling techniques:

Companionable quartet.

The colors cover well.

He's happy.

Warm regards - and Happy Wednesday - Bob

(next little effort will be marbling on Daniel Smith Transparent Ground)

Beautiful set Bob! (As usual).

Just finished reading the original "Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde." Actually a very short book. Very dark. But I digress from another detective story... A Quartet of Fountain Pens.

I love the Virage set; and with no complaint with your usual wonderful Modified Slimlines, I am happy to see your artistry on other kits (mediums...). Your blanks deserve another palate... Jt Gent series as a thought. The Virage is well suited.

The Marbling spectrum went well! I love the finished blanks/pens.

Your artistry is sought after, please continue.

Sincere thanks for kind comments!

Mark - I too have enjoyed Jekyll and Hyde - and recall this line about Hyde:

"...the steps fell lightly and oddly, with a certain swing..."

No doubt referring to the swing of a lathe with its banjo, and the little skips of the skew.

Happy Sunday to all - Bob

(don't Hyde all day in your shops)

Heartfelt thanks, Brian!

I like the Daniel Smith watercolor grounds for marbling - each has it's own personality.

I'm working with Transparent ground this week, and will post some results in a few days.

Thanks again, Friend.

Prayers for hurricane victims - Bob

PS: I had a little sand marbling "breakthrough" yesterday - preview of coming attractions:

stay tuned...
