Finally have the "new" lathe useable and decided to tackle a couple pens that i was commissioned to do. Lady wanted a lighy vs dark theme on two higher end pens. This is the first one. A gun metal vertex supreme using a ziricote blank.

Ran into an issue with the finish and sanded it down and reapplied. Took a little more time than i had hoped but im happy with the end result and thats all that matters.

The second pen will be a chrome vertex supreme with birds eye maple.

How do i know what nibs will work with this kit? I know i can pull the nib and reservoir out but how is there a standard sizing or shape system for pen nibs?

The nibs on this pen are an odd size. Basically a #5 1/2. The nib is sized like a #5 with an curvature like a #6 at the base. The #5 replacement nib doesn't hold and a #6 is too large to fit through the cap. Same issue with the magnetic Graduate. Lots of threads here on the subject.

Pen looks great!
I love the Vertex as a roller ball but I'm not a fan of the Vertex fountain though. I made one a while back and always have issues with it drying up.

Very nice..but learned the hard way about the nib. I am hoping there's a viable stock solution
out there.

I got ambitious today and finished the rollerball as well. The rollerball writes like its on rails. The fountain pen im not a huge fan of but a lot of that is operator.

The birds eye maple has been sitting in my "private" stash since i started making pens this spring. When i was asked to do this pair i knew it would be perfect for it.
