Here is another pen using teak from the original deck off the USS Des Moines (CA-34).

The Des Moines was commissioned in 1948, decommissioned in 1961, and finally struck in 1991. She was the Navy's last all gun Heavy Cruiser (no missiles). She was a real showboat, hosting presidents and royalty.

Having served in the U.S.Navy, I love seeing the pens members have made from the teak of decommissioned ships. You did a great job on that one, and an equally great way of displaying it.

I got the wood from a gentleman that worked for the company that broke the ship apart. Unfortunately, the company is no longer in business.
