.......the case in question is shown in the 1st picture. The head stamps has L C and I think that is for LAKE CITY BRASS and also 5 8...and I do not have clue what that stands for. Maybe 1958 issue? The case is .796" at the base, just a bit over 3/4" and the length is 2.990, almost 3"s. I turned the projectile as such, from Aluminum. I used a Slimline transmission and cleaned the case up as much as possible and still it shows it's age, and I like that! I hope someone can ID the case for me. Thanks and be well....Jan

That looks like a 50 cal spotter-tracer, M48A1 shellcase. This caliber was used in the M8C mounted on the 106mm recoilless anti-tank canon. The M8C trajectory was very similar to the 106mm canon, and was used to zero in on the target before firing the big gun.

You are correct that the headstamp "LC" "58" means the shellcase was manufactured by the Lake City Arsenal in 1958.

That's a neat find!

Eric

Jan,
What is the bullet neck diameter? You were right about lake city and the 1958 manufacture date.

I do not know. I just got the case only. The ID of the neck is .505, so most likely .5 as the case has not been resized, neck expansion upon release! I just made the bullet that size because it looks about right!

I have also been wondering the markings on the 50 cal shells I have.
Now I know what LC stands for, but can anyone shed some light on MF ?

I also found a 20MM case made by NESCO, 1943, M21A1. I think it is a Cannon round?
