Two pens today!

[Woodchipper]

One pen is a satin finish with maple blank. It was finished with two coats of black Sharpie with each wiped down with acetone to even the color. The grain was a bit open so it had two coats of medium and six coats of thin CA. The other is a copper with flame box elder with CA finish,. Had a tiny open place in the grain and applied two coats of medium and six coats of thin CA. That one was made by my wife, her first pen and first turning. Both are Slimline from Woodcraft. Photos attached for you. OK, why are they turned 90 degrees? Wife looks like she is turning on the Equator.

Two nice pens there. Very innovative way of colouring your wood, I will have to try it one day.
It's great that you can share your hobby with your wife , but if she likes it too much you might be up for another lathe.

Thanks, Brad. I don't think she will become addicted like some of us with pens and woodturning other things. The photo quality isn't the best from my Android. Tried to adjust the lighting to eliminate shadows. Need to use the Nikon instead and play with the settings. She is a big fan of flame box elder.

The equator makes more sense. I thought she had suction cups on the bottom of her shoes and was hanging from the wall.

As mentioned before, we know that Sharpies come in different colors. She brought four colors from her craft stuff. The wood on my pen was maple from an old cutting board that fell apart because someone insisted in putting it in the dishwasher. Need to find another example of the Sharpie method. I "painted" the color with the grain, turning by hand, and wiped it with a paper towel and acetone. Did this twice. Haven't tried DNA but will experiment and report on the next pen. Going to see if I can find another pen. Black color; blue is Trans Tint.
