Nice work, the pens look good. The background is very distracting. Try using a solid neutral color background and if you put the pens parallel, you can get a smaller picture with bigger pens.

Thanks guys.

As for the photo, I started off trying to get photos against a dark blue cloth background, but the pens metal parts flared and you couldn't see any detail, thus I looked around for something else.

As for why I put them at angles, the two pens are necessarily complementary - so I wanted some space between them so they were compared directly.

Still waiting for a guess on the material though. I will post it in a few days if it isn't guessed by then.

I have decided to say (as it was guessed on another forum). It is made from compressed resin impregnated fibres (Micarta is the trade name).

I can repost it here as well if people want - or even clean it up as an article when it is finished, although I am far from an expert.
