I finally found a few hours recently to make a pen. Nice to be back in the shop.

This one is unusual in that the section is small enough to screw into a barrel with a 11.75 mm diameter tenon, and yet it accommodates a #6 nib. The small barrel tenon allows a small opening in the cap and this makes fitting bands much easier than the usual (13.2 mm) opening.

The material is an acrylic acetate called "Tiger Eye" from Exotic Blanks, and the section and finials are black ebonite. The bands are brass, which will stay shiny if the pen is wiped down with a jewelry cleaning cloth. The gold plated clip from a PSI Polaris kit is one I like a lot.

Thanks for looking.

Weight 22 g

Overall length 5 3/8" (137 mm)
Uncapped length 5" (127 mm)

Cap diameter 14.5 mm
Barrel diameter 13 mm

Very nice Robert. I notice your cap threads are a little shiny. Do you polish these???

The brass adds just the right amount of 'finesse' to the entire pen. Well turned!!!

Does it post?
How many hours do you have in this one?

Nice pen Robert. I like this material, and the bands are well placed. The shape is interesting. All around, another well made instrument.

This one does not post. I have about 8 hours in it because I cut the cap too thin at the finial joint. I had to cut the length of the cap back 1/8", plug the hole for the finial tenon, redo the joint, and make a longer finial. That added a couple hours, but I like the longer cap finial much better anyway. So this another of those "good" mistakes.

Gorgeous! The material is beautiful, the brass is just right and the shape is nice. The shine is perfect and the photos are great. Did I mention that I like this one?:)

Are the black parts ebonite?

Beautiful pen Robert!! I really like the color combination of the Black Ebonite with the Tiger Eye Resin. The brass accents are perfectly placed. I like the larger finial on the cap as it gives the pen a distinctive and regal look.

Robert, I can take or leave the shape but that's just personal preference. More importantly though, the details of the pen are terrific. The spacing of the stripes, the brass accents, and the proportions of ebonite to Tiger's Eye are excellent. The color combination is very rich looking also. It's meant as a compliment that I can not care for the shape and yet still appreciate the workmanship and think you did an excellent job.
