Wrapped in Thuya burl finished with CA. I attempted a custom finial with the cutoff and had a catastrophic failure. Oh well maybe next time. Pretty nice pen though. Hope my pics are a little better, I got a new camera and been playing with it. I'm not happy with the photos but I'm working on it.

Dale,
That is a gorgeous pen! I would say you did everything right!
I bet the shop smells good now too!

You can always add the finial when you get a new piece of Thuya Burl.

I love working with Thuya, it has such a unique smell to it. It also takes a finish very nicely. The only thing I don't like about it is the fact it clogs sandpaper really fast.. Nice job this is a beauty.

Thanks for the replies and compliments! This was the first time I ever turned thuya and it does have a peculiar smell. As far as my failure of the finial it was getting really close to finished size and I knew I should reinforce with some CA because of the grain. But I got in a hurry thought just a little more shape and it exploded into pieces. I was going to puzzle it back together but could not find a couple larger pieces. No personal injury except pride.
