OK, so I got some of Mannie's Shittem wood. This is the type of wood used in the Ark of the Covenant (remember the 1st Indiana Jones movie). Wonderful piece with what I believe to be sap wood. I made a new finial for it. 3rd time was a charm there. Comments welcome. BTW this is a rare wood in fact, Mannie is the only person I know who tries to keep it in stock.

Another wood that has a very subtle grain yet can look really nice is Kiaat.
