Seems Saturdays are made for turning stuff? Well, at least here it is!
Having had to wait a few days to receive a 37/64th drill bit from a vendor on amazon.com was driving me nutz....just a little. But it was my fault for not looking closely enough when ordering some new(to me)kits from timberbits.com

Almost forgot how bad this stuff smells when being drilled! Made the 'One-that-must-be-obeyed' run out of the garage to get fresh air, and she is a smoker!

Anyway....Desert Ironwood{Olneya tesota} on a Sr. Gent 'gold rollerball'
Finished by sanding to 600grit, applied BLO, then EEE friction polish, and then waxed.

Comments and/or critiques are most welcome!

I thought it deserved a topic of its own....considering where it came from. I still have two pieces of this stuff, and I'll need to find fitting projects for it.....one of them has some sapwood as well as nice figuring, and the other is nicely knotted!!!

Is that wood really dense?
I know it's dense, but it made me wonder. So I weighed a piece of desert ironwood (3/4 X 3/4 X 5 1/4 and a slightly bigger piece of black walnut 13/16 X 3/4 X 5 1/4. I've had both blanks for over 2 years, so they should both be completely dry.

Black Walnut = 1.3 ounces or 38 grams

Desert Ironwood = 2 ounces or 69 grams

So you can see DIW is quite a bit heavier. But it isn't difficult to turn.
