Both Barrels are from a block George (Robutacion) sent me for a Christmas Exchange last year.

Upper/Lower Barrel: Tasmanian Eucalyptus Burl
Center Band/Finial: Claro Walnut from the shop floor...

Recently, I'm going "minimalistic" on my finishes... So, Dry sanded with Abrantet 240, Wet sanded with Abranet/Walnut Oil 320, 400, 600. 3 coats of Danish Oil over 24 hrs. A very dull, matte finish, very smooth, with open inclusions.

Cheers Mate!

Wow Mark your skills are defently getting much better, very nice pen.

Mike

Gee thanks Mike... So last year I stunk (ha ha - just kidding). After I did 5-6 of the closed end pens, I did a basic 2 barrel Atrax... OMG - that was easy!

Yup, pushing yourself a bit does make a difference.

I am downloading several more pen sequences tonight - these are fun... I take 3-4 days, but having a good time. Right now, I do not have large time blocks (2-3 hr), so I'm doing small bits.

Thanks for the compliment, BTW.

Hi Mark,

I finally see a pen made from that Tassie Oak-burl and, what an example that is...!:biggrin:

That wood is just asking for the natural processes in the finish you gave it, all those crystallized gum veins do give it a different looking.

They could be finished with a deep/gloss CA finish also, just a totally different look and feel to the pen wood surface so, either option works well...!

You are definitely doing great work, congrats...!

Cheers
George
