Default Tan Feathers

"Feathers" made with paint chips in a light gray resin, on a Sierra kit, CA finish and MM to 12000.

And here I was told to stop playing in the paint chips(nevermind, that was eating the paint chips)....



How did you maint the seperation during that casting? Normally the 'chips' would all end up in a 'pile' toward one end of the blank. BTW, the turning is WOW!

These blanks were flat cast in a shallow mold (if you vert cast them the flakes will sink to the bottom). The separation is random bec once poured the flakes will sink and lay flat...so the pen will have 2 sides that show flat flakes and two sides that will show flake edges (does that make sense?). The trick is to get the correct ratio of resin to flakes, when the flakes are dry they settle one way but once mixed with the resin they compact a lot more.
