This black plated 'Euro' was made with a blank derived from the TAGUA nut.

"Called tagua or corozo, these nuts are the seed of the ivory palm found in South America. For many decades, tagua has been used as a substitute for elephant ivory. All tagua nuts have an interior void. Tagua is hard but quite consistent. Tagua can be softened by soaking in water..."

Give it a try, you may like it, but one thing is certain our elephant friends will thank you for it.

Russ,
the tagua nuts purchased from Lee Valley were sufficient to make this pen (2 nuts). The 'voids' were filled with tagua shavings an CA. The voids in each and every nut are the only thing from making this an A-1 rated material.

Peter,
I really like the way this nut looks like ivory! Do you think it would engrave?

Yes it will engrave. Tagua has been used for years as an alternative ivory in buttons and other small goods. Tagua can be dyed as well.

I have never gotten my work as clean and white as this pen, well done.

Good job!

<br />Very unique looking. Like the others, I am amazed that you found some big enough for this job.

I lucked into a bag of "jumbo's" at my local woodcrafdt a couple years ago but I turned them all into vessels. Never thought they would make such a stunning pen.
