You should have seen my first attempt at the red barrel. I ended up sanding through some of the stripes, called Ken and he shipped out another that day.
A little tip that helped me. On the stripes, I used diluted woodworkers glue (tightbond) and placed it in the stripe cavity with a artist brush. The stripes themselves I completely wetted with water and this made them flexible enough to where they conformed to the curve of the barrel. Then used mini clamps (Home Depot .37 ea) to hold them in place. The setup time was extended a little bit the peace of mind was well worth it.
I also turned down a scrap to insert in the barrel so the tube wouldn't be distorted from the clamps
