Maple with a bloodwood star and a paduk and ebony lower barrel. The star needs to be just a wee bit smaller. The dot in the center of the star is a product of the camera. I can't see anything like it in real life :D

Jim,

I seem to recall you did a writeup on making the star somewhere?
If you could post it here i'm sure it would be of help to someone.
Or maybe a pdf file for Jeff to put up on the site?

I sure would like to try one of them.

I just put it up in the Tip, tricks, and FAQs section.
As long as we've been hanging out in the same forums Hank, I thought you knew me[:D]

Well....PMG if you have a mind to. But let's not start on that road. That is awesome. I just made a wise crack on your demo page showing how to make a star about making a huge pen. I NEVER thought you would get it down to pen size. That is great.

Jim:
Grat job. never thought about putting that into a pen. I have been using your instructions for segmented stars in bowl turning that you posted on Woodnet.

If you don't mind, I provided the link (above) to the woodnet post. Thanks for your clear and easy-to-follow instructions. It says a lot about someone who would share his knowledge, expertise, and experience in order to teach what he has learned, without afterthought. I, for one, thank you for sharing yours!

Nice looking pen by the way! Never thought about using a hair clip as a pen stand before [;)]

I just read the tutorial and then saw your pen. The star came out great and the turning and finish job are dead on. Great work all around- definitely a one of a kind pen.
