stabilized spalted applewood

Greetings.
Last year a got a piece of spalted applewood. The blanks are stabilezed with Cactus Juice.
The kit is an "Elegant Beauty Sierra Pen" from Arizona Silhouette. Thanks to Curtis and Berry for the support by sending the items to AUSTRIA.

Very nice.

Some years ago I was allowed to cut the trunk from a windfallen apple tree. To my surprise it too was spalted. Somewhat different. Thkis particular wood had many intertwined ribbons of black thread like spalt in it.

Wood was somewhat dry. I cut some into oversize pen blanks to allow for shrinkage. Dried in a low temperature dehydrator for few days. Turned a nice pen for the gentleman who gave me the wood, then made a few small bowls. Will have to search about and see if I have any more left.
